Description

Shaoqi Building

📍 Address: 360 meters west of the intersection between Guban Road and County Road 007
🕰️ Historical Background: Shaoqi Building was originally a temporary residence for Comrade Liu Shaoqi during his work in the North China Anti-Japanese Base Area in 1942, located within Pingshan County, Hebei Province. At the time, Liu Shaoqi, serving as Secretary of the Central Committee's Northern Bureau, conducted grassroots research and guided guerrilla warfare behind enemy lines. The building was converted from a local farmhouse and stands as a testament to the Chinese Communist Party’s steadfast resistance during difficult times and its close ties with the people.

🏛️ Architectural Features: The building exemplifies traditional northern Chinese residential architecture, featuring a brick-and-wood structure with blue tile roofing, oriented southward, and consisting of three main rooms flanked by two side wings, forming a complete courtyard layout. It retains its original appearance from the 1940s—windows and doors still bear visible signs of past use. Inside, period-appropriate household items and facsimiles of handwritten manuscripts are displayed, authentically recreating the simple living conditions of revolutionaries.

📜 Cultural Relics and Exhibits: The building houses a dedicated exhibition room showcasing important documents, personal letters, and historical photographs from Liu Shaoqi’s tenure in North China. Among the highlights is a facsimile of the original manuscript of "On the Cultivation of Communist Party Members," a particularly valuable artifact offering crucial insights into the history and ideological development of the Chinese Communist Party.

🌟 Cultural Significance: Shaoqi Building is one of China’s nationally protected cultural heritage sites and an essential component of the “Jin-Cha-Ji Border Revolutionary Site Cluster.” Beyond commemorating Comrade Liu Shaoqi’s revolutionary journey, it embodies the Communist Party’s enduring commitment to “engaging closely with the masses and adhering to factual truth” during national crisis, holding immense historical educational value and significance in red culture.
