Dahanzhai Mosque was originally constructed during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, with a history spanning over 300 years, making it one of the significant Islamic religious sites in southwestern Shandong. According to records in the Dahanzhai Han Family Genealogy, the mosque was first built during the Chongzhen era of the Ming Dynasty (1628–1644), and has undergone multiple renovations, most notably on a grand scale during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty (1875–1908). The existing stele titled Record of the Reconstruction of the Dahanzhai Mosque meticulously documents its construction history, offering invaluable historical material for studying the settlement patterns and religious development of the local Hui community.

The mosque faces eastward and is oriented westward, adhering to traditional Islamic architectural orientation. Its overall layout is strictly symmetrical along a central axis. Key structures include the prayer hall, minaret (the call-to-prayer tower), lecture hall, and ablution facilities. The prayer hall spans three bays, featuring a hip roof covered with glazed tiles, with upturned eaves that blend the aesthetic of traditional Central Plains architecture with distinctive Islamic decorative elements. Inside, exquisite wood carvings and well-preserved painted beams adorn the structure, while the dome at the ceiling features Arabic inscriptions from the Qur’an, embodying the religious aesthetic of harmony between heaven and humanity.

📜 Cultural Relics

• A stele dated to the 42nd year of Qianlong’s reign (1777), recording donor lists, provides tangible evidence for studying folk religious beliefs and charitable culture in Qing Dynasty China.
• Two antique bronze incense burners from the Qing Dynasty, bearing clear inscriptions and masterful craftsmanship, are now displayed in front of the main hall.
• A hand-copied manuscript of the Qur’an, penned by a Hui scholar of the late Qing Dynasty, is designated as a provincial-level intangible cultural heritage item.
