The Yu Huang Zhuang Ruins are a significant ancient cultural site dating from the Neolithic period through the Shang and Zhou dynasties, with a history spanning approximately 5,000 years. First identified during archaeological surveys in the 1980s, repeated excavations have confirmed it as a transitional zone between Longshan and Yueshi cultures, serving as crucial evidence for the early development of civilization in southern Shandong. The name "Yu Huang Zhuang" originates from local folklore, but archaeological research has established that it is actually an ancient settlement site rather than a ritual burial mound.

The site covers an area of about 30,000 square meters, with surviving remnants of a rammed-earth platform forming a square, pyramid-like structure standing roughly 4 meters high and measuring approximately 120 meters in circumference. Excavated artifacts are predominantly pottery, including sand-tempered red ware, black pottery ding (tripods), dou (vessels), and basins. Some vessels bear incised symbols that display characteristics suggestive of early writing systems. Additional discoveries include stone axes, bone needles, and clam-shell sickles—tools reflecting an economy primarily based on agriculture and hunting-fishing activities.
