🏯 Historical Development

Established in 2018, Jiyang Museum is the first comprehensive regional museum in Jiyang District, built on the site of the former Jiyang Cultural Hall. Its origins trace back to the Jiyang County Cultural Relics Management Office founded in 1956, carrying a vital mission of preserving local cultural heritage. Fully upgraded and completed in 2023, it now holds the status of a National Grade III Museum, comprehensively showcasing over a thousand years of Jiyang’s history and humanistic landscape.

🏗️ Architectural Features

The building blends modern minimalist design with traditional regional elements. The main structure features gray brick façades and sloping roofs, reflecting the architectural style of northern Shandong rural dwellings. The overall layout follows a "courtyard-in-courtyard" (U-shaped) configuration, with a central courtyard housing the water feature sculpture Source of the Yellow River, symbolizing Jiyang’s cultural roots as a key node along the Yellow River basin.

🏺 Highlights of the Collection

The museum hosts three permanent thematic exhibitions: History of Jiyang Civilization, Yellow River Culture Special Exhibition, and Intangible Cultural Heritage Skills Display, featuring over 4,000 artifacts, including:

  • Neolithic Dawenkou Culture pottery (such as painted pottery bowls and sand-tempered red clay jars)
  • Han Dynasty stone carving rubbings (featuring scenes of filial piety stories and agricultural life)
  • Folk wood carvings, brocade textiles, and clay sculptures from the Ming and Qing dynasties
  • Modern revolutionary relics (including military maps and handwritten letters from the Anti-Japanese War era)

Notable exhibit: Reconstructed Model of the Ancient Jiyang Well Site, vividly recreating the city’s water management system during the Warring States period.

🌟 Cultural Significance

As an important cultural hub supporting ecological protection and high-quality development along the Yellow River, Jiyang Museum systematically traces the evolution of civilization from prehistoric settlements to modern times. It serves as a definitive window for studying social transformation, folk beliefs, and ethnic integration in northern Shandong. In 2022, it was selected as one of the “Top Public Cultural Spaces in Shandong Province.”
