Description
Jinan City Ring City Park Β· Wushijie Old Site
π Location: No. 1, South Butong Spring Road, Jinan City, Shandong Province, within the Butong Spring Park
π°οΈ Historical Background:
The Wushijie Old Site was a significant street in the western part of the old city of Jinan, named after the "May 3rd Incident" that occurred on May 3, 1928. On that day, Japanese troops occupying China carried out a massive massacre and looting in Jinan, resulting in over ten thousand civilian and military casualties. It is one of the important sites witnessing the shame of modern Chinese history. The site was once the location of the National Government's office in Jinan and, after urban transformation, the ruins were incorporated into the Ring City Park system.
ποΈ Architecture and Remains:
The current site is a tranquil memorial area within the Ring City Park, with cobblestone paving and a "May 3rd Incident Memorial Stone Stele," inscribed with the events of the incident and the list of the deceased. The architectural style blends traditional Chinese elements, surrounded by ancient elm and cypress trees, creating a solemn and reverent atmosphere. Although there are no complete architectural remains, the site's landscape design and inscriptions silently transmit the historical memory.
π Cultural Value:
The Wushijie Old Site is not only a geographical coordinate of a major historical event in the early stages of the War of Resistance Against Japan but also carries the profound memory of the indomitable spirit of the Chinese nation and its awakening. As an patriotic education base, it continues to play an important role in warning the future generations and commemorating history.
