🏛️ Historical Development

Bazhou Museum was established based on the Huaxia Folk Collection Museum, serving as a comprehensive private museum integrating local history, folk culture, and traditional arts. Founded in 2008 by renowned local collector Mr. Li Guoqiang, it has accumulated over a decade of cultural heritage and now stands as one of the key folk cultural institutions in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. In 2021, it was officially registered as “Bazhou Museum” with approval from the Hebei Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau and incorporated into the national cultural relics management system.

🏗️ Architectural Features

Located in the heart of Bazhou New Town, the museum’s architecture blends traditional Ming and Qing dynasty residential styles with modern minimalist design. The main structure is a three-story brick-and-wood imitation ancient building with blue-tiled roofs, upturned eaves, and symmetrical courtyard layouts following fengshui principles. Inside, the museum features permanent exhibition halls, temporary exhibition spaces, a digital interactive experience room, and a cultural innovation zone. The overall atmosphere is refined and timeless, embodying the museum’s philosophy of “preserved by the people, passed down to the world.”

🖼️ Collections and Exhibitions

The museum houses over 5,000 cultural relics, spanning from the Ming and Qing dynasties to modern times, including ceramics, paintings and calligraphy, furniture, folk artifacts, coins, and vouchers. Its collection particularly highlights folk life heritage from the Jizhong region:

  • Ming and Qing Dynasty Ceramics: Featuring masterpieces from renowned kilns such as Ding kiln, Cizhou kiln, and Jun kiln;
  • Folk Legal Documents: Well-preserved land transaction and marriage records from the Qing Dynasty through the Republican era, reflecting regional social transformation;
  • Traditional Folk Tools: Including bridal sedan chairs, farming implements, and seasonal ritual objects, illustrating daily life in the Yan-Zhao area;
  • Revolutionary Cultural Relics: Manuscripts, military insignia, and revolutionary propaganda posters from the War of Resistance against Japan, showcasing enduring revolutionary spirit.

The permanent exhibition, “Yan Zhao Heritage – Bazhou Folk Culture Exhibition,” systematically presents the city’s historical evolution and humanistic values.

🌟 Cultural Significance

As a project supported by a National Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Unit, Bazhou Museum is dedicated to promoting the living transmission of local culture. It regularly hosts events such as “Intangible Cultural Heritage Workshops,” “Stories Behind Old Objects,” and “Folklore Lectures,” serving as an essential platform for the public to explore Jizhong folk traditions and strengthen cultural identity.
