Hua Tuo Ancient Hong Temple 🏯
📍 Address: 260 meters east of the intersection of Guhong Street and Xishahe Road, Jian'an District, Xuchang City, Henan Province
Historical Origins 📜
Hua Tuo Ancient Hong Temple was originally constructed at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty to honor Hua Tuo, known as the "Divine Physician." According to records in the Book of the Later Han and local chronicles, Hua Tuo once practiced medicine and alleviated suffering among the people here. Moved by his compassionate healing arts, the local populace erected a temple in his memory. The site has undergone multiple reconstructions during the Tang, Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties, with most existing structures reflecting Qing architectural style. It stands as one of the few well-preserved historical sites dedicated to Hua Tuo across China, maintaining a complete historical lineage.
Architectural Features 🏰
The temple faces south with its main axis aligned north-south, covering approximately 3,500 square meters and following traditional symmetrical layout. Key structures include the mountain gate, main hall, east and west auxiliary halls, and a corridor lined with steles. The main hall features a single-eaved hip roof with intricate dougong brackets and well-preserved painted beams and rafters. Inside, a clay statue of Hua Tuo is enshrined, depicting a solemn expression and flowing robes that reflect the high artistic standard of Qing dynasty sculpture. Two stone lions stand before the hall, their craftsmanship simple yet enduring, bearing silent witness to centuries of history.
