Shu Tong, Zhao Zhefu, and Li Yuyang's Former Residence

🏛️ Historical Background
This former residence is a significant historical site where prominent figures of modern times lived and worked. Built in the early 20th century, it was originally a typical four-sides courtyard residential building of the Republic of China period within the city of Xi'an. It has served as the residence of the famous calligrapher Shu Tong, the educator Zhao Zhefu, and the revolutionary pioneer Li Yuyang. It is an important witness to Shaanxi's modern culture and revolutionary history.

🎨 Architectural Features
The courtyard follows the traditional northern four-sides courtyard layout, facing south, with a strict overall layout, brick and wood structure, and green tiles on the roof. The eaves are beautifully decorated with carvings. The main house is a three-bay gable building, with the east and west side rooms symmetrically distributed. The gate tower is decorated with brick carvings, reflecting the craftsmanship level of residential buildings in Guanzhong during the Republic of China period. A ancient wutong tree is planted in the courtyard, with sturdy branches that have witnessed a century of wind and rain.

📜 Cultural and Historical Value

• A plaque with the words "Ink and brush should follow the times," handwritten by Shu Tong, is still present in the courtyard, with strong and forceful calligraphy that showcases his character as a "red calligrapher";
• The office desk and chairs, as well as several boxes of books, used by Zhao Zhefu are still preserved, reflecting his contributions to educational reform in the northwest;
• The oil lamp, manuscript fragments, and other relics used by Li Yuyang record the historical details of the early underground activities of the Communist Party of China.

This former residence was listed as a Cultural Relic Protection Unit in Xi'an in 2018 and is a precious material resource for studying the spiritual style and revolutionary journey of modern intellectuals in Shaanxi.
