The Wei Clan Ancestral Temple was originally constructed in the 54th year of Emperor Qianlong’s reign (1789) as a place for ancestral worship and clan cohesion by the local Wei family. It underwent multiple renovations during the Jiaqing, Daoguang, and Guangxu periods, and has now stood for over 230 years. The temple bears witness to the migration, settlement, and cultural integration of Hakka people in southern Sichuan, serving as a rare physical testament to Qing Dynasty clan systems and immigrant culture in southwestern China.

📐 Architectural Features
Oriented southward with the mountain as its backdrop, the temple covers approximately 1,200 square meters and follows the traditional “four-sided courtyard” layout typical of southern Sichuan residential architecture. Its main structure employs a dougong wooden framework, with blue tile roofs and upturned eaves. The central hall rises prominently, featuring carved bracket sets beneath the front eaves and intricately painted beams depicting Confucian themes such as the “Twenty-Four Filial Exemplars” and “Chronicles of Loyalty and Righteousness.” The stone gate inscribed with the words “Wei Clan Ancestral Temple” displays bold, powerful calligraphy, while the couplets on either side read: “Carrying forward the legacy for generations, continuing the lineage through time,” reflecting the enduring spirit of the clan.

🏺 Cultural Relics and Remnants

• Three Qing Dynasty wooden altars remain inside the temple, with the central one housing the tablet of the Wei clan’s founding ancestor; the carvings are delicate and fluid in line.
• Two Qing-era steles stand within the courtyard, recording the temple’s founding history and clan regulations, respectively. Their inscriptions are clear and hold significant historical value.
• Portions of original wall murals are preserved, featuring auspicious motifs and historical figures, offering insight into folk artistic sensibilities of the era.
