The Ji Feng Mountain Temple was originally built during the Tang Dynasty as a place for folk worship of mountain gods. It gradually evolved into a Taoist temple due to its strategic location at the pass of the Qin Mountains and the prosperity of Taoist culture. During the Northern Song Dynasty, it was granted an imperial edict and became one of the important centers for Taoist activities in the Guanzhong region. It was repeatedly repaired during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and the existing buildings are mostly from the Qing Dynasty, serving as significant physical evidence for the study of Taoist propagation and local beliefs in the northwestern region.
The temple is built along the mountain slope, facing south and north, with an overall layout of three courtyards, covering an area of approximately 1,200 square meters. The main buildings include the mountain gate, the main hall, the side halls, and the bell and drum towers, all of which are constructed of brick and wood. The roofs are covered with green tiles, with exquisite ridge decorations and regular bracket structures, reflecting the typical architectural style of the Qing Dynasty in Guanzhong.
The halls preserve remnants of Ming Dynasty colored murals, covering Taoist themes such as "The Three Pure Ones Preaching" and "The Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea." Despite the erosion of time, their artistic standards are still evident. In front of the main hall stands a stone tablet from the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, recording the history of the temple's reconstruction, which holds significant historical value.
The Ji Feng Mountain Temple is not only a place for religious activities but also carries rich folk culture. Every year on the third day of the third lunar month, the "Shangsi Festival," local people hold a temple fair for blessings, continuing a tradition of over a thousand years, reflecting the ecological wisdom and faith heritage of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
