🏛️ Historical Background

The Shandong Taiwen Zhan Nan Chang Museum is China's first thematic museum dedicated to "Nan Chang," a traditional local specialty food. It is built on the century-old brand "Taiwen Zhan." According to the "Laiwu Chronicles," Taiwen Zhan was founded in the 28th year of the Guangxu Emperor (1902), originally a well-known meat workshop within the Jinan Prefecture, specializing in "Nan Chang" — a traditional preserved meat with a strong flavor of the Shandong region. The production techniques have been passed down to the present day and are listed in the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Jinan City.

🏗️ Architectural Style

The museum's architecture blends Ming and Qing styles with modern exhibition concepts, covering an area of approximately 1,200 square meters. The main structure is a quadrangle layout, with blue bricks, grey tiles, carved beams, and painted rafters, re-creating the typical style of old Jinan commercial houses. The museum features a workshop reconstruction area, a non-material cultural heritage exhibition hall, an interactive experience area, and a cultural and creative product store, with a reasonable spatial layout that combines historical charm with modern functionality.

🖼️ Cultural Relics and Exhibits

The collection contains over 300 cultural relics, including:

  • Handcrafted sausage molds from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China period
  • Tools used by Taiwen Zhan over generations (such as meat grinders and drying racks)
  • Original signs and historical photos of the old brand
  • Multiple handwritten recipes and sales ledgers
  • Video materials of the national intangible cultural heritage master's skills

Among them, a wooden plaque hand-carved in 1920 with "Taiwen Zhan" is listed as a first-class museum relic.

🌟 Cultural Value

As an important carrier of the diet culture in the central region of Shandong, Taiwen Zhan Nan Chang not only carries the wisdom of traditional pickling and curing techniques but also reflects the development trajectory of Jinan's commercial civilization in modern times. Its unique "three steaming and three drying" process embodies the Chinese dietary philosophy of "heavenly timing, geographical advantage, and harmonious people," and is a precious material for studying the folk dietary customs and market economy in the north.
