Manye Museum is nestled in the heart of the ancient city of Lijiang, built upon the cultural context of the "Southern Silk Road." Its origins can be traced back to the Ming and Qing dynasties, when it served as a gathering place for literati. It was a significant node for cultural exchange and the circulation of ancient texts along the Tea Horse Road. In 2016, it was reconstructed on the site of the original Ming Dynasty shop, transforming into a modern cultural space that combines artifact collection, intangible cultural heritage exhibitions, and humanities forums. It is one of the few non-commercial independent museums within the ancient city.

🏗️ Architectural Style

The architecture adopts the traditional Naxi wooden frame style, using local pine wood and grey stone, preserving the layout prototype of "three courtyards and one screen wall." The eaves are upturned, and the carved window lattices depict the mythical creatures from the "Classic of Mountains and Seas" and Dongba characters, reflecting the charm of cultural integration. The interior space is designed with the "fluid display" concept, achieving thematic rotation through movable display walls, balancing functionality and artistry.

The collection boasts over a thousand items, including:

• Han and Tang Silk Road Relics: Such as Tang Dynasty bronze mirrors and Yuan Dynasty brocade fragments;

• Modern Borderland Images: Over a hundred old photographs of the ethnic life in Northwestern Yunnan during the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China;
• Intangible Cultural Heritage Interactive Installations: Operational stations for Dongba papermaking and dyeing experiences.
